Dark Adventure Radio Theatre® - The Horror in the Museum

This adaptation stays fairly close to the original story, adding a final twist to their adaptations of Lovecraft’s stories, making his downer endings just a little bit darker. This tale about the price of achieving immortality through works of art gets an extra boost from this adaptation. The cast and crew add much in the way of atmosphere and dialog which help bring to life one of Lovecraft's lesser works. (For me at least.)

This was my first introduction to DART, and it was a fun choice. Loved how the actors tried to sound Canadian, and I believe I heard one use the phrase "take off"... Seriously, the voice acting was extremely good, the production quality exceptional, and the props well chosen leads into the show. The story line was a touch predictable, but did not detract from enjoyment at all.
This is a relatively short show, perhaps 80 minutes or so, which was good for me because i could enjoy it within a single evening. I strongly recommend it.

Geriatric fantasy/Sci-Fi/Horror/Strange Tales etc fan from UK.

As with all of HPLHS offerings this is excellent. Rather than review this title I'd like to review HPLHS itself. I've got most of their stuff (a lot from audible) and pride of place is The Complete Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft. Many people have tried to "read" Lovecraft but these are the only people that really capture the feel of the stories.

I have over 2Tb of Old Time Radio and their Dark Adventure Radio series capture the atmosphere of the old radio series perfectly. "At The Mountains Of Madness" is my Christmas Morning play while preparing the Christmas food (ok so other people have It's a wonderful life) and "A Solstice Carol" is my Christmas Eve offering.

I have enjoyed all the Dark Radio releases (I have all of them). They are recorded in a superior fashion and sound great on all of my audio devices. I recommend them highly, you will not be disappointed.

The original story Horror in the Museum, a HPL "collaboration," is an enjoyable read, but not something I could recommend to others except hardcore fans. This Dark Adventure treatment of the story, on the other hand, elevates the source material tremendously. The added in the script a lot of depth and other dimensions to the story and characterization that takes amazing advantage of the story's potential. Someone once said that when converting literary works into movie adaptations, choose source material that's mediocre but transform it into something of a much higher quality. HPLHS does this exactly with this story for "radio." Highly recommended.
