Bluray NOTE: The Bluray edition of Whisperer features a glorious HD picture but it does not have ANY subtitles. None. To make it up, we put a special commentary track on Whisperer which features David Robertson, Andrew Leman and Sean Branney. The Bluray contains all of the special features from disc 2 of the DVD set, but if you want subtitles, DVD is the way to go.

Wonderful adaptation

Whisperer In Darkness is an amazingly high-quality version of the HPL story, one of my favorites of his writing. It expands on the story without harming the tone or losing faithfulness to the original. I liked it so much I bought another for a gift (the recipient said it should receive an award), and have ordered The Dunwich Horror as well. (I once heard a very old very good radio broadcast of Dunwich on a Halloween show, btw). I've seen a few commercial HPL adaptations; I would say Whisperer is the best I've seen - yet. I'll be buying any videos HPLHS offers.

Very well done. And completely in the style of a 1930s horror movie, or a late 1950s sci-fi thriller.
I also think the mild modifications to the end of the plot were acceptable.
But I still prefer The Call of Cthulhu story.

A dream come true

Let me preface this by saying that The Whisperer in Darkness is one of Lovecraft's stories that I particularly love, so I approached the viewing of this film adaptation with an extremely critical spirit.

Despite the high quality of the work, I must confess that I was not particularly surprised, but only because, after seeing The Call of Cthulhu, I knew I would not be disappointed.

If the adaptation of Call of Cthulhu is appreciated for its excellent production techniques (considering, of course, that it is a limited-budget independent amateur production), The Whisperer in Darkness is loved from the opening credits to the end credits.

The adaptation faithfully mirrors Lovecraft's work, with a few minor liberties dictated by the needs of the case.

==Spoiler Alert==
I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of the small female character (absent in the story but functional to the pathos of the narrative in the film) and was literally delighted with the special effects and the way the Mi-Go creatures were reproduced.

All done with the typical making techniques of American science fiction films of the 1950s and 1960s, which kept me glued to the screen during my childhood in the decades that followed.

After purchasing and viewing the film on the Blu-Ray medium, I was so satisfied and delighted that I purchased, purely as a collector's item, the DVD version as well. A real must-have for any serious Lovecraft fan, I dare add.

Fantastic!

This was the first of HPLs works I ever read, so I had to make it my first Dark Adventure purchase. The quality is amazing and the addition of artifacts from the story just kicks it up a notch! Will definitely be purchasing others!
