Love It!

I'm usually not one for listening to Holiday music a lot, but I love this album. The music is great, the new texts definitely fun, and the production value is really high. I definitely will make A Very Scary Solstice a Holiday tradition from now on.

I have been hearing these songs for years, and I hardly remember the original lyrics. My wife and I sing them every year. Now that I have the CD, song book and digital download I am delighted.

Ah, this takes me back.

Nowhere good, but still; back. It's the first Christmas music I've heard, ever, that doesn't make me feel like doing unspeakable things to a food court standee. Playing it, I found myself in an actual festive mood, and soon, to the surprise but mostly horror of innocent bystanders, singing along. I've never been a Christmas person, but for the last few years, found my own traditions and celebrated it on my own terms. This was just what it needed.
As with all Society productions, a lot of love went into this, and it shows. It's polished with its fun sound effects and use of instruments (the accordion in "Fish-Men" kills me), yet, unlike most Christmas music, has an intimate, outsider-y quality that invites you in with a heartwarming "room for one more". It reminds me of those parody songs we'd pull out around the summer camp fire when the counsellors weren't looking. If you don't feel like singing, the songbook is a joy to read while sipping your tea. And, Lovecraft connoisseurs or not, everyone can enjoy this. Funeral biscuit, anyone?
