"His scientific obsession had degenerated into a hellish and perverse addiction to the abnormal"

Dark Adventure Radio Theatre®: Herbert West—Reanimator lets you hear Lovecraft's tale as it might have been dramatized for radio in the 1930s. In the style of The War of the Worlds, The Shadow and other classic radio dramas, Dark Adventure Radio Theatre® presents HPL's story with a huge cast of professional actors, exciting sound effects and thrilling original music by Reber Clark. If you enjoyed the Stuart Gordon film, you're sure to enjoy this return to Lovecraft's original six-chapter story.

Ambitious medical student Herbert West, believes he can conquer death through the reanimation of dead tissue. He and his colleague embark down a path filled with dubious science and horrifying results as they endeavor to bring life back to dead bodies. Their unholy quest leads them across New England and eventually into the trenches of the Great War in search of fresh cadavers for their nefarious experiments. Will Dr. West succeed in unlocking the very forces of life and death, or will his ghoulish experiments be his undoing (yes, we realize this is a rhetorical question, still....)?

In addition to the full 69 minute radio drama on CD, you'll get these carefully made props from the story to enhance your listening experience:

• a grisly page from Dr. West's personal research notebook

• a memorial card from the funeral of Dr. Allan Halsey

• Dr. West's Canadian Army enlistment document

• clippings from the Arkham Advertiser describing the capture of "the Arkham Cannibal" and more

• a bonus musical track from the Miskatonic University Men's Glee Club, recorded in MythoPhone™.

These great extras are complemented by the fantastic artwork of illustrator Darrell Tutchton in the style you've come to know and love from other episodes of Dark Adventure Radio Theatre®. The CD edition includes a free MP3 download of the show.

The cover art is also available on shirts and other fun merch from our Redbubble store!

Or Download Now. You can skip the props and CD, and download a high-quality MP3 of the show right now and be enjoying it in just a few minutes. It's available as a single audio file or a collection of multiple chapter files. It's eco-friendly, with no shipping or tax charges!

Good show

Loved the dark humor in this one. Beat for beat with the original story with added music and sound effects bring this one over the top.

AND WITH REANIMATION EVEN DEATH MAY DIE...

It’s perhaps both ironic and unsurprising that this tale, which Lovecraft reportedly thought little of, should have latterly become one of the more widely-known of his works, thanks to various, often loosely-related, movies and comic books making use of themes regarding the “Reanimator” aspects. This DART version, of course, returns to the original written source, whose brief, episodic nature may have made for a somewhat easier adaptation than many Lovecraft stories. Even so, reworking the monologuing narrator into a plausible recounting for a typical DART ensemble cast will not have been easy, something the polished performances and minor revisions here effortlessly conceal for the listener. The essential musical accompaniment, so much a part of all the DART shows, enjoys an especial showcase here with the “Onward Miskatonic” song bonus track, plus there are the props to add a further level of reality to the entire production with the physical CD version, which in this case take several elements from the tale a little beyond even Lovecraft’s descriptions. Excellent!

One of my favorites

Always loved the original short story and this drama does a good job of conveying the elements of that story into a marvelously produced production.

Delightful!

I think I have all but five dart episodes now, and this is among my favorite. You can tell they really enjoyed making this one. Especially awesome is the bonus track and the alternate version of the Miskatonic fight song in the regular performance! Onward!
