Call of Cthulhu Combo

Having discovered the HPLHS because of its props and extras, this Combo set was always my preference for the Society’s first foray into film. The movie strikes a fine balance between period filmic features and style (including, for instance, “wear” on the images, and the use of German Expressionist techniques in places), and modern picture-clarity expectations, with an option to have the music in similarly modern clarity, or its “worn” Mythophonic version. Both audio versions are highly recommended, while the quality of the movie is indeed as superb as the many previous reviewers have indicated. The CD offers the chance to concentrate solely on the audio cues, though a full symphonic rendering of the entire collection, purely as a musical narrative, might have been a valuable addition (if one also needing a second CD). Sleeve artwork for CD and DVD provides a near-perfect 1920s movie-art-style rendition of the titular Great C, stunningly rendered in full on the good-quality T-shirt, and most especially on the full-sized, fold-out poster. The latter is truly magnificent. Completing the set are two facsimile “New York Times” period cuttings, regarding a genuine murderous cult active in Louisiana and Texas, which provide a sobering reminder of Lovecraft’s blending of fact with fiction in his writings. In May of 2021, I was talking to my twin of my love for Lovecraft and how I was reading him again, and also regaling my love of Mercury Theatre radio programs. They were like, "What a coincidence, I learned there's something just like that!", and they introduced me to this community. I learned about their radio show, Dark Adventure Radio Theatre, and that they also made the this same silent Call of Cthulhu film that I had heard of before some years ago. And so, to test this place out, I ordered this bundle, to get all the extra goodies. When it arrived, you bet I tried that shirt on immediately. The film is one of my new favorites of horror movies to watch now and again, but there was a problem. I did not receive the newspaper clipping as advertised. …That is, until I emailed this store about that, and Sean Branney himself got back to me about my situation, and in less than a week the newspaper clippings arrived, safely packaged, and free of charge! The complete package, all together, is just great. When a group like this goes out of their way to give a great package with great quality content, I much prefer content like this to more mainstream media.

So I got this combo for my birthday. I really like it! The shirt fits perfect and is so soft! The movie is great to watch, the music fits each scene as intended, the acting is splendid and taking the silent film approach was a masterful idea. I currently listen to the soundtrack when I'm cleaning or taking a bath. If you or someone you know is a Lovecraftian then this is definitely the ideal gift!

This is a great bargain. The movie is a fun way to spend some time during a rainy day or night. The movie poster looks great on any wall or door. The movie soundtrack is pretty cool. The newspaper clippings are a trip and the T-shirt looks great on anyone. Heed the call and get this bargain of a combo.

You cannot go wrong with this combo deal, if you love everything Cthulhu like I do, then you should really think about getting this deal, the movie, movie poster, movie soundtrack and the t-shirt make this the perfect gift for someone who loves Cthulhu or a gift for yourself, I love that the movie is a black & white silent film.
